Enchanted Forest

This is a classic kids game by Ravensburger that involves a little memory and deduction and can be a bit cut throat. It is a standard Roll the Dice and move X amount of spaces, with a fairy tale theme.

Players move a token around the board, looking underneath trees for various fairy tale treasures and having to remember what was under them, and if they discover the location of the Treasure at the castle, they can go claim it and add it to their collection. The first one to collect 3 treasures wins.

This game is advertised as 4+, 2-6 players, and can take 30 minutes to an hour to play.

I would lean toward an hour of play time.

Our Thoughts on the Game

I had this idea of getting my kids into boardgames from the time they were young and bought this one as our Christmas Eve Board game a few years back. That being said, we have never finished playing this game and it has been in our possession for about four years now. It doesn't make it out of the gaming closet often.

The pieces that go into the trees have a tendency to fall out, though they are supposed to be permanently attached to the trees, so you have to use a little ingenuity to keep the pieces in tact.

Mom Thoughts : There are so many great board games out there that this one just makes me want to cringe, mostly because it is a very traditional Roll and Move that are so prevalent with classic Board Games. That, and it takes so long to play that it will be difficult to hold the young one's attention while the older kids are bored with it. You can play on teams to speed things along and the first team to get three wins, but even with that house rule, we still couldn't finish a game.

Werewolf Thoughts : It doesn't catch my attention, and it's annoying how my brother tries to kick me back to the village and follows me on purpose. It's not a game for me.

Rosie Thoughts : Not really my type of game.

Robot Thoughts : I don't like it. (He just followed his sister and enjoyed booting the other players to the beginning.)

Lizard Thoughts : I asked him if he wanted to play it again in the future, he said he would. But he couldn't sit through an entire game, so at 4 years old, just know your preschooler and if they have the patience to sit through a game like this, as it certainly has educational merits, but the game can take a while. Lizard has other games he would much rather play.

Overall Thoughts : It could be fun to play with your kids if they absolutely love Roll and Move games, and some kids do.  It is also a good game that uses the memory mechanic which is educational for younger kids, especially if they like playing games with mom and dad. However, it can drag so not high in our recommended games for kids, especially ones with limited attention spans and will likely soon be purged from our collection. It's probably best played with kids in a similar range with a parent helping guide the game along.
